Russia-Ukraine War Accelerates Climate Crisis, Study Discloses

A new report tells that the climate impact of first two years of Russia-Ukraine conflict exceeds the annual greenhouse gas emissions of 175 countries. The fight has generated at least 175 million tons of CO2 equivalent, driven by warfare, flight reroutes, forced migration, fires and damage to fossil fuel infrastructure. The study, conducted by Initiative on Greenhouse Gas Accounting of War, estimates a $32 billion climate compensations bill for Russia. The report underlines the significant, often ignored environmental costs of war.
