1. Hazardous:

Hazardous substances pose a threat to the health, property, or the environment due to their physical a chemical properties. These materials are flammable, corrosive, reactive or explosive. 

Examples: 

  • Flammable: Gasoline 
  • Reactive: Sodium metal 
  • Corrosive: Sulfuric acid 
  • Explosive: Fireworks 

2. Toxic:

Toxic materials mainly harm living organisms, causing adverse health effects such as poisoning, cancer, or organ damage. Toxic substances can be chemical, biological, or radiological in nature. 

Examples:

  • Chemical: Mercury 
  • Biological: Botulinum toxin 
  • Radiological: Uranium
