New World Record in Solar Power Conversion

A residential-sized solar panel has made a new world record by converting sunlight into the electricity with over 7% enhancement in current module efficiency. UK-based startup Oxford PV introduced next-generation tandem solar cells using “miraculous material” perovskite to improve traditional silicon solar panel performance. The perovskite-on-silicon tandem solar cells reached an efficiency of 26.9%, surpassing the best silicon modules by 7.5%. Cover an area of 1.6 square meters and considering less than 25 kg, these panels are believed “ideal size” for home use by Oxford PV. CEO David Ward stated that the record-setting module signifies important innovation in solar power generation.
